Independent publishers Boneyard Press and Caliber Comics published John’s first comic work in 1994 and 1995. Later, he received offers from more prominent publishers and resided in New York.
In 1996, he produced art for Dark Horse Comics’ Ghost and was hired as a regular artist on Homage Comics’ Desperadoes.
Similarly, DC and Marvel hired him in late 1997, and he gained worldwide fame for his work in X-men.
His other famous books include Planetary, The Avengers, Superman, Batman, The Hulk, Astonishing X-Men, Captain America, and Star Wars.
John Cassaday Suffered From Brain-Related Complications

Update on John: He’s in the ICU at Mount Sinai West. He’s still stable. His organs and heart are functioning normally. His brain is the main concern. Robin expressed two days after John was rushed to the ICU.
However, she hasn’t disclosed the specific reason for her brother’s ICU visit.

After the tragic post on Facebook, many fans and followers poured their heartful condolences.
Mark Waid, to whom John showed his portfolio at San Diego Comic-Con in 1996, expressed he was one of his generation’s most gifted and sought-after comics illustrators.
Fans have been worried about his health since 2023 after they didn’t see his work more often, and they took to Reddit to discuss it.
Nonetheless, John Cassaday’s mother, sister, close friends, and family survive him.
While growing up, he didn’t believe he would pursue a career in comics, but he remained a true talent with many accolades.
