Tragically, a car hit her and impaled her skull at 16, which changed her behavior so radically that she spent eight months at Utah State Hospital.

She has been open about her mental health struggles, including dissociative identity disorder in 1994.

Roseanne received a diagnosis of morbid obesity at 307 pounds in 2003 and decided to undergo gastric bypass surgery to address her weight concerns.

She choosed to keep the surgery private but received criticism when she lost an impressive 160 pounds.

Roseanne went through mental stress when she was removed from the revival of the sitcom Roseanne. Nonetheless, she told the Times,

I’ve survived. I’ve come out on the other side of it, finally. But it was a witch-burning. And it was terrifying. When they killed my character off, that was a message to me, knowing that I’m mentally ill or have mental issues, that they did want me to commit suicide.

Nonetheless, she reappeared with her comedy special Roseanne Barr: Cancel This! in 2023 and voiced Principal Pam Bortles in an animated series, Mr. Birchum, in 2024.
